The FMCSA has Extended the Compliance Date

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) announced today that the compliance (enforcement) date for the controversial Leasing and Interchange Final Rule for passenger carriers has been extended until January 1, 2018.

The revised compliance date will allow FMCSA additional time to consider the industry’s concerns reflected in the Petitions for Reconsideration.

While the enforcement date is extended until January 1, 2018, the “effective date” remains the same. UMA has concerns the “effective date” could affect your civil liability. We urge you to discuss your obligations with legal counsel and your insurance carrier.

This revision reflects the many efforts UMA members made to communicate with their Senators and House Representative as well as the Petitions for Reconsideration submitted to FMCSA.

While considerable work remains, this revision represents the strength of your efforts and the value of UMA membership.
