Alexandria, VA – Prevost has announced they will once again co-sponsor the United Motorcoach Association’s Annual International Driver Competition. The competition will take place on Feb. 25, 2022, in Long Beach, CA, during the 2022 UMA Motorcoach Expo. It’s an annual opportunity to shine a light on the face of the motorcoach industry, its skilled drivers, who are in short supply in recent years.

“Prevost is proud to continue partnering with UMA by cosponsoring the UMA International Driver Competition,” said François Tremblay, President, Prevost, and Volvo Bus North America. “Drivers are a key part of every operator’s success. We always want to promote awareness of driver and passenger safety; this competition offers an important method to achieve that awareness. Prevost is committed to attracting and training drivers. The driver competition is one more way we can support drivers and their professional development.”

“By continually supporting this event since its inception in 2017, Prevost allows us to bring together our top drivers to showcase their expertise,” said Jeff Polzien, UMA Chair. “This is a logical extension of the many state and regional competitions, and with the support of Prevost, the motorcoach industry now has a powerful way to underscore our industry’s continuing focus on safety and professionalism.”

The UMA International Driver Competition champions will receive cash prizes, trophies, framed certificates, and recognition at UMA’s Member Appreciation Dinner at UMA Motorcoach EXPO the evening after the on-road portion of the competition.

Eligibility to compete is based on a driver’s participation in the UMA Safe Driver Recognition Program, winning a championship in a state or regional competition, and/or recommendation from their UMA Member employer. Competitors are eligible for a complimentary hotel stay and a free 2022 UMA Motorcoach EXPO registration. Full details about the competition are on the EXPO website.

The UMA Motorcoach Expo is the largest gathering of motorcoach operators in North America, traditionally bringing together nearly 2,000 bus and motorcoach industry professionals annually. In addition to the driver competition, the event includes multiple networking opportunities, a sold-out exhibit hall featuring the latest products and services, and an educational program designed to address all bus and motorcoach business operations. Complete details about the UMA Motorcoach Expo are available online.
