Committees

2018-2019 UMA Committees

UMA’s Committees are the primary mechanism for the association to receive direct member input and provide advisory counsel when addressing operational issues and establishing association programs and policy.  They meet via video conference throughout the year and when appropriate will meet in conjunction with UMA events such as UMA Motorcoach EXPO, the mid-year Board meeting or other in-person seminars or events.  Committees are created by and report directly to the Board.  Besides Board members, other UMA members are encouraged to volunteer and serve on most UMA committees.

The Executive Committee cannot amend policies, documents of governance or Board actions. Meetings may be called by the Chairman or the President/Chief Executive Officer. The Chairman shall serve as Chairman of the Executive Committee. Actions of the Executive Committee shall be reported to the Board of Directors at its next meeting or by mail or e-mail according to policies and procedures adopted by the Board.

Legislative & Regulatory Committee

When it becomes obvious that an issue must be addressed either legislatively or through the rulemaking process, the matter is brought before UMA's Legislative and Regulatory Committee. The committee determines the priority level the issue is given and what action is warranted based on its perceived effect to the industry. With the advice and counsel of the government affairs staff, the committee examines various action plans and decides on the approach that is most likely to lead to a successful outcome. The committee then refers the proposal to UMA's full Board of Directors for ratification. This committee is one of UMA’s most active and communicates regularly. Besides monitoring state legislative and regulatory activities, the committee members spend much personal time to help UMA achieve its public policy objectives. The Committee will hold a minimum of 4 video conferences per year and also utilize e-mail communications to facilitate its work between meetings. UMA staff liaison Ken Presley
