UMA Endorses Anne Ferro for FMCSA Top Position

The United Motorcoach Association is proud to give its full support and endorsement of President Obama’s nomination of Anne Ferro to the position of Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). As a separate administration in the US Department of Transportation, the FMCSA serves as the chief regulator for commercial vehicle safety including trucks and buses.

“I am very happy to support the nomination of Anne Ferro to head the FMCSA,” noted Victor S. Parra, UMA’s President & CEO. “Her effectiveness in both the private sector, by leading the Maryland Motor Truck Association, and public sector, by heading the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration has given her the experience and skills necessary to advance motor carrier safety to the next level.”

There are many challenges awaiting Ferro if confirmed by the Senate, including developing the “Motorcoach Safety Action Plan” as directed by Department of Transportation Secretary LaHood, new operator compliance regulations including performing compliance reviews more timely, and driver education and proficiency.

“The bus and motorcoach industry is experiencing a unique transitional period and the next Administrator will need to understand the capacity of our industry and the measured solutions,” added Parra. “I look forward to working with future Administrator Ferro to achieve effective solutions that assures improved bus and motorcoach safety.”

Founded in 1971, UMA is comprised of over 1,200 members located all across North America, with more than 925 charter and tour bus operator members who provide transportation services in all fifty states, Canada and Mexico.
