Member Alert:
Registered Charter Operator with the Federal Transit Administration
Carriers who wish to continue receiving notices from public transit agencies when they intend to conduct charters must renew their registration on the
Federal Transit Administration website (FTA). To do so,
Most carriers registered in April/May of 2008 just after the revised Charter Service Rule became effective. The FTA advises they have incurred recent
difficulties with their website but all problems are reported to be corrected. If you believe you have renewed your registration please check the website to
make sure your information was received and currently dated. If you have not already renewed, please do so now. Carriers are required to renew and update their
registration every two years or they are automatically dropped from the eligible list. Carriers not listed on the website will not receive notices and do not
have standing with the FTA.
Should you have any difficulty registering online, you may contact the FTA Charter Service Ombudsman, Crystal Frederick at 202.366.4063 or
ombudsman.charterservice@dot.gov. If you are having online difficulties you may fax your registration to
202.366.3809. Please continue to check that your registration is posted as it takes several days.
Please note if there are no Registered Charter Operators in a public transit’s geographic area they are free to conduct Charter Service without Federal
prohibitions.
If you have any questions, please contact Ken Presley at 800.424.8262 or by email at kpresley@uma.org.
