![]() About the Bus & Motorcoach Academy Small businesses are the cornerstone of the nation’s economy. Today’s economic environment requires small business owners and operators to constantly be gaining new information and to help position themselves at the forefront of the industry. Operating a motorcoach company provides even more challenges due to the increased competition as more firms enter new service areas and new companies continue to enter the marketplace. How will you differentiate yourself? Presented by the United Motorcoach Association through a partnership with the College of Southern Maryland, the Bus & Motorcoach Academy has been designed specifically for the motorcoach industry with on-line courses covering the issues that the industry deals with on a daily basis. The objective of the Academy is clear – to increase the business and operational knowledge of the motorcoach and bus industry, because with this increase of the knowledge base, confidence is considerably improved and greater measured risk can be applied in seizing and expanding the opportunities of an increasingly mobile society. Through its two schools, the Clarence Cornell School of Business and the Motorcoach Operator/Driver Program, the Academy will consolidate and coordinate existing and new talent to provide authoritative business knowledge to not only motorcoach owners and operators but also to drivers, school bus operators and other key industry personnel. The Registration fee is $139 per course for UMA Members. Non-UMA Members can register but will be charged a $199 per course fee. UMA Members can also sign-up for all five classes and receive a discounted rate of $599. If you are interested in registering for the volume discount, or if you wish to register a group, please contact Michele Nosko at mnosko@uma.org or 703.838.2929. Bus & Motorcoach Academy Wins Distance Learning AwardIn March 2008, the Bus & Motorcoach Academy, developed by United Motorcoach Association in conjunction with the College of Southern Maryland, was awarded the 2008 Maryland Distance Learning Association Award for Distance Learning Program of the Year. Criteria for the award included quality of the program, scope of the program, and innovative program design. The Clarence Cornell School of Business The Clarence Cornell School of Business is named after the founder of ABC Companies, Clarence "Clancy" Cornell. As head of ABC Bus until his retirement in 1997, Clancy had a vision of consistently contributing to his community and to the industry as a whole, a message that will be continued through the Bus & Motorcoach Academy School named, through the thoughtful donations of ABC Companies and the Cornell Family, in his honor.
